Meet Elizabeth

Elizabeth Freyre, RDN
Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor

Hi everyone! I’m Elizabeth, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist living with my husband and 3 kids here in Southeast Michigan. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Dietetics(and completed the coordinated internship) from Eastern Michigan University in 2007. Since then, I have worked in clinical inpatient and outpatient settings where I’ve gained a wealth of knowledge in Medical Nutrition Therapy(MNT.) Also, I don’t like to leave out my 16-year experience as a mother, where I have learned(and continue to learn) a tremendous amount about feeding kids and teens in our modern world;)

I am passionate about helping others feel the best they can through the power of nutrition and movement, but what traditional experience never taught me, is that focusing on weight or body size as one of the primary targets to meet health goals doesn’t work. In fact, this approach is not only ineffective, but in the long-term is shown to promote weight-gain and cause physiological and psychological harm. Unfortunately, I began to see this first-hand, which is when I started seeking out different approaches to enhance well-being and fell in love with Intuitive Eating.

Intuitive Eating is a practice built on 10 principles developed by two amazing dietitians - Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch. Over the last 7 years, I’ve implemented Intuitive Eating into my personal life and started learning everything I could about body kindness and weight inclusive health approaches - HAES®  (Health At Every Size.) I have also completed the training as a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor under Evelyn Tribole’s supervision course.

I’m still a passionate RD who wants to help others meet their health goals through nutrition and movement, only now I’m doing it through a new lens with a fresh approach that places compassion and positivity in the forefront. No more rigid diet rules, exercise assignments, guilt, or shame. No more obsessing over numbers on a scale or calories-in/calories-out. This is about nurturing a healthy relationship with food, making food choices that come from a place of nourishment and pleasure, and moving your body because you love it (not because you hate it.)

I feel hopeful and blessed for all the clinicians and professionals who are paving the way toward weight inclusivity by fighting diet culture and providing guidance and learning opportunities to all of us. I love learning and I’m always furthering my clinical knowledge so I can serve my clients better. Recently, I have taken courses and training in the specialization of digestive disorders and eating disorders. I find the mind-body connection fascinating!

I am excited to be a part of this positive, body-kind nutrition therapy that is leading so many people towards a better quality of life.

Nutrition Counseling sessions are available both virtually and in my Ann Arbor office(located within Tree of Life Wellness - my sister's family medicine practice.)

*I work in collaboration with my sister, Dr. Kristina Bahrou, who is a weight-inclusive, HAES-informed MD!!
